CAIRO - 31 March 2026: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received a phone call Tuesday from Russian President Vladimir Putin, where they discussed the latest regional and international developments.
De-escalating situation in Middle East
During the call, President El-Sisi stressed the need to de-escalate the current situation in the Middle East, outlining Egypt's efforts to reduce tensions and maintain regional security, in coordination with several regional partners, to prevent the region from descending into chaos.
El-Sisi also noted that Russia, with its international weight and capabilities, is able to influence efforts to end the war.
President El-Sisi also affirmed Egypt's full support for the security of its brotherly Arab states and its complete rejection of any infringement upon their stability and sovereignty under any pretext, emphasizing that "the security of Arab states is an extension of Egypt's national security."
Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy, the official spokesperson for the Presidency, said that the two presidents discussed ways to restore regional stability, particularly in light of the negative economic impacts of the current war and its repercussions on regional and international security and stability.

President El-Sisi emphasized prioritizing the implementation of the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip, including ensuring the flow of sufficient and unrestricted humanitarian aid to the Strip, expediting the reconstruction process, and working to revive a political process leading to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state within the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with international law and the two-state solution, considering this the only way to achieve lasting stability in the region.
In this context, President El-Sisi affirmed Egypt's commitment to continuing coordination with Russia to achieve a just and comprehensive settlement of the Palestinian issue. President Putin, in turn, welcomed continued consultation and coordination with Egypt in this regard.
