CAIRO - 30 March 2026: In another achievement added to its impressive record, Cairo University has further solidified its leading position both locally and internationally, according to the results of the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2026.
This ranking is considered one of the most prominent modern global indicators for measuring the openness and integration of academic institutions within the international scientific community.
Cairo University ranked 182nd globally in this 2026 ranking, compared to 187th in 2025, reflecting significant progress and a continued improvement in its standing among the most open and influential universities internationally.
Cairo University hosting 33K international students
Cairo University hosts more than 33,000 international students from over 110 countries worldwide, underscoring its growing international appeal.
The number of internationally published research papers under the university's name exceeded 7,500 in 2025, according to the Scopus database, with international collaborations accounting for 48.1 percent of these publications. This reflects the strength and breadth of its international research partnerships.
Among Egyptian universities, Cairo University is the only Egyptian university included in this year's ranking, according to the issuing body. This reflects the university's prominent position, as it continues to lead the local academic landscape as one of the most prestigious educational institutions, while also strengthening its international presence through active participation in the global higher education system.
This is all part of a comprehensive strategic vision aimed at supporting academic excellence, fostering international partnerships, and embracing diverse scientific and research cultures.
The ranking of the most international universities is based on a set of precise criteria, including the percentage of international students, the percentage of international faculty members, the volume of international research collaborations, and global academic reputation. Each criterion is given an equal weight of 25 percent.
In this context, Cairo University has achieved outstanding performance, reflecting its ability to attract international talent and provide a multicultural learning environment that contributes to preparing graduates capable of competing globally.
In this regard, Dr. Mohamed Sami Abdel-Sadek, President of Cairo University, stated that the university's progress in the 2026 THE World University Rankings is a direct reflection of the success of a clear institutional vision aimed at consolidating the university's position as a global academic center open to diverse scientific cultures.
