CAIRO – 30 March 2026: Following the government's decision to activate a remote work system every Sunday starting April 1, the Ministry of Health and Population has announced specific details regarding its operations.
The announcement addresses public inquiries concerning the continuity of healthcare services during these periods of remote work.
Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population, confirmed that all hospitals and health units will continue to provide their full range of medical and treatment services.
He emphasized that these vital services will remain unaffected by the remote work system being implemented under the new Egyptian Cabinet decision. While administrative staff at the Ministry's headquarters and provincial health directorates will operate online on Sundays, hospitals, ambulance services, and other essential frontline facilities will continue to operate on-ground as usual.
The transition to online work is strictly limited to departments that do not require a physical field presence. This includes central administrative divisions such as planning, statistics, quality, finance and administration, licensing and oversight, and the digital transformation and IT teams.
Dr. Abdel Ghaffar pointed out that sectors providing daily essential services directly needed by citizens are excluded from the remote work mandate, reflecting the state's commitment to ensuring that healthcare is never disrupted.
The Ministry also utilizes a central digital operations room equipped with a dashboard to monitor hospital occupancy, emergency cases, and drug inventory in real-time. The expansion of electronic medical records allows for the remote review of medical files and the auditing of daily hospital reports.
Additionally, digital services such as appointment booking, inquiries regarding state-funded treatment, and the tracking of test results will be fully activated every Sunday to assist citizens remotely.
Dr. Abdel Ghaffar noted that the nature of the health sector differs from other industries due to its primary reliance on direct citizen interaction. All emergency departments and critical care units will continue to operate at full capacity around the clock. The Ministry’s existing digital infrastructure, built over recent years of digital transformation, ensures that periodic meetings and technical follow-ups can be conducted electronically without impacting service quality.
Dr. Abdel Ghaffar reaffirmed that the citizens’ health remains the top priority and that no action will be taken that could affect the quality or speed of medical services.
Egypt’s Prime Minister, Mostafa Madbouly, announced in a press conference that the government decided to activate an online work system every Sunday, starting from April for a period of one month as a first phase, within the framework of the state’s efforts to rationalize energy consumption and improve the efficiency of the work environment in government entities.
