Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly speaks at the Cabinet headquarters as he announces new measures on remote work and energy saving.
CAIRO - 28 March 2026: Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly said Egypt’s message during President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s Eid tour of several Arab countries was clear: Cairo is ready to support regional security and stability, and it rejects what he described as unjustified attacks on the territory of sister Arab states.
Speaking at a press conference at the Cabinet headquarters, Madbouly said the tour also reflected Egypt’s firm position against any attempt to undermine the stability of Arab countries, stressing that Egyptians stand with their Gulf partners and reject any aggression targeting Gulf states.
At home, the prime minister announced a set of steps the government says are designed to keep the state running smoothly while limiting the pressure created by the war’s wider economic impact, especially in energy markets.
Madbouly said the government will activate online work every Sunday, starting April 1, for one day per week.
He added that if the war and its ripple effects continue, the government could consider adding another remote day later, depending on how conditions evolve.
He stressed the decision does not apply to schools, universities, factories, or hospitals.
Madbouly also said the government has approved several steps to reduce electricity and fuel consumption.
One measure is cutting fuel allocations for government vehicles by 30%.
Another is slowing down major projects that consume large amounts of diesel for two months, as part of a temporary push to manage fuel use and reduce pressure on energy supplies.
The message from the press conference was that Egypt is trying to hold two lines at once: a political and diplomatic line abroad in support of Arab stability, and a practical line at home to reduce consumption and keep services steady if the regional crisis drags on.
