WASHINGTON - 26 March 2026: The United States is weighing military options for a “final blow” in Iran, which could include the use of ground forces and a game-changing seizure of critical islands, Axios reported, citing US officials and other sources familiar with the matter.
The sources said US President Donald Trump is considering four main options, including the seizure of Kharg Island, Iran’s main oil export hub, or Larak Island, which helps Tehran maintain control over the Strait of Hormuz.
Other options include the seizure of Abu Musa, Greater Tunb and Lesser Tunb, strategically located near the Strait of Hormuz and controlled by Iran but also claimed by the UAE.
Trump is also considering the seizure of or disruption to oil shipments near the strait, the sources said.
US ground forces could also be deployed deep inside Iran to secure highly enriched uranium at nuclear sites, the sources said.
The US president has not made a final decision, according to Axios. However, sources said he is prepared to escalate if current alleged talks with Iran do not yield tangible results soon.
