CAIRO - 26 March 2026: Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Sherif Fathy, affirmed that the measures recently announced by the Egyptian government to rationalize energy consumption in light of current global developments will have no impact on tourists, their tourism experience, or the quality of services provided to them in Egypt.
The measures are scheduled to begin on Saturday, March 28, for a period of one month, and they include setting closing times for shops at 9:00 PM on weekdays and 10:00 PM on Thursdays and Fridays.
Minister Fathy ensured that these measures do not apply to tourist attractions and restaurants in Egypt, as they are completely exempt. This ensures the continued provision of tourist services with their usual efficiency and quality.
The minister pointed out that all tourist destinations in Egypt, including Hurghada, Marsa Alam, Luxor, Aswan, Sharm El Sheikh, and others, continue to receive their visitors normally, stressing the Egyptian state’s keenness to ensure the provision of an integrated, safe and distinguished tourist experience for all visitors to the Egyptian destination, reflecting the leading position that Egypt occupies as one of the most important tourist destinations in the world.
