CAIRO – 24 March 2026: Egypt’s Ministry of Health and Population announced on Tuesday that it has raised its alert level to maximum across all hospitals and health facilities.
This move coincides with warnings from the Meteorological Authority regarding significant weather instability expected to affect the country on Wednesday and Thursday, March 25 and 26.
Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesperson for the Ministry, confirmed that the Minister of Health and Population, Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, has directed all necessary measures be taken to ensure a rapid response to any health emergencies.
These instructions prioritize ensuring full operational capacity in emergency and intensive care units, as well as guaranteeing the availability of essential medicines, medical supplies, and sufficient stocks of all blood types and derivatives.
Furthermore, the Minister has ordered a comprehensive review of the status of backup electricity generators, water tanks, and formal evacuation plans to ensure infrastructure resilience.
The Ministry has also bolstered the readiness of the national ambulance system by distributing 2,400 ambulances across the country. This includes 48 four-wheel-drive vehicles specifically allocated for desert and mountainous terrain, along with 11 ambulance launches deployed to secure the Nile islands.
Deployment has also been intensified along desert and agricultural highways, with extra support provided to coastal governorates to manage potential risks associated with the upcoming weather conditions.
