CAIRO – 23 March 2026: Egypt strongly condemned on Monday the escalation of Israeli aggression against Lebanon, specifically the deliberate and systematic targeting of vital civilian facilities and infrastructure.

Egypt also denounced the targeting of bridges connecting Lebanese regions as a flagrant violation of Lebanese sovereignty and a grave breach of international law and the UN Charter.

Egypt reaffirmed its unwavering support for the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Lebanon, expressing full solidarity with Lebanese institutions during this critical period.

The Egyptian government called for full compliance with UN Security Council Resolution 1701 in its entirety and without selectivity. This is essential to ensure that Lebanese state institutions—most notably the Lebanese Army—are empowered to fulfill their responsibilities, extend sovereignty over all Lebanese territory, and maintain exclusive control over all weaponry.

Furthermore, Egypt affirmed that the deliberate destruction of infrastructure constitutes a blatant policy of collective punishment. This policy has led to the forced displacement of approximately one million Lebanese citizens and the depopulation of entire regions.

Egypt strongly condemned the exploitation of this humanitarian crisis and the suffering of civilians as tools for military and political pressure.

Egypt stressed the urgent need for the international community, particularly the UN Security Council, to take immediate action to deter these practices. Immediate intervention is required to prevent further deterioration of the security and humanitarian situation and to avert the risk of Lebanon sliding into deeper instability.
