CAIRO – 19 March 2026: The official spokesperson for the Saudi Ministry of Defense announced on Thursday the interception and destruction of three drones in the Eastern Province.
Amid escalating regional tensions, the UAE State Security Service also announced on Thursday the arrest of members of a terrorist cell linked to Hezbollah and Iran. The cell was operating within the country under the guise of a legitimate business, attempting to undermine the UAE's financial and security stability, according to a press release.
UAE authorities confirmed that the operation resulted in dismantling a network that was planning attacks to threaten the national economy. Investigations are ongoing to determine the full scope of the cell's activities both within and outside the country.
Official sources stated that this action is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen national security and protect the economy from external threats, particularly in light of rapidly evolving regional developments.
Furthermore, Saudi Arabia and Jordan issued alerts on Wednesday amid a surge of missile activity and military escalation on several fronts. The Saudi Ministry of Defense announced that its forces successfully intercepted a missile attack targeting the Eastern Province.
The Ministry confirmed that air defense forces destroyed two ballistic missiles launched toward the province, with no casualties or material damage reported.
This operation reflected the readiness of Saudi defense systems to handle aerial threats in light of increasing security challenges.
Recent days have witnessed an exchange of missile attacks, along with the targeting of vital energy facilities—most notably gas fields in southern Iran—leading to disruptions in regional energy supplies.
The escalation has also affected other countries in the region, with drones and missiles detected in the airspace of several Gulf states. Alerts were issued in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Bahrain, and air raid sirens sounded in areas near the theater of operations.
