CAIRO - 19 March 2026: Egypt's Ministry of State for Information and top media regulators issued a joint statement Wednesday warning against negative media practices and rumors that threaten "eternal" ties between Egypt and fellow Arab nations.
The statement, coordinated by State Minister for Information Diaa Rashwan, was co-signed by the Supreme Council for Media Regulation, the National Press Authority, and the National Media Authority. It follows recent media trends that the bodies claim harm relations with countries including Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Iraq, and Jordan.
Describing attempts to undermine these relationships as a "crime" against national and pan-Arab interests, the authorities called on journalists and influencers in Egypt and abroad to immediately cease debates and "provocations" not based on facts.
The signatories urged the public to disregard social media rumors aimed at inciting strife and to rely solely on official statements. They further warned that legal measures, provided by Egyptian general law and specific media regulations, will be enforced to "discipline media performance" and prevent damage to Egypt’s foreign interests or the insult of brotherly officials.
The statement concluded by calling on authorities in the mentioned Arab nations to take similar measures to quell discord and protect the cohesion of the Arab world.
