CAIRO - 18 March 2026: The National Human Rights Strategy in Egypt gave special attention to the right to privacy.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports launched the National Program to Combat Cyber Extortion, organizing a series of awareness and educational sessions in various governorates.
Approximately 2,000 young men and women benefited from the program, which focused on preventing cyber extortion, mechanisms for dealing with it, and available support services for victims.
Raising awareness of safe internet use
Within the framework of joint cooperation, the National Council for Childhood and Motherhood implemented several programs and activities in collaboration with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, UNICEF, and the nation-wide Haya Karima [Decent Life] Foundation, aimed at raising awareness of the dangers of cyberspace and promoting safe and responsible internet use.
In this context, the national campaign "Aman" [which translates to Safety] was launched. It included a training workshop to build the capacities of 30 children, along with an awareness event attended by 130 children and 100 parents.
Field campaigns and specialized training for different groups
A mobile awareness bus bearing the "Aman" campaign logo was prepared, in cooperation with UNICEF, to conduct field awareness activities on privacy protection and digital footprint for the 10-16 age group.
A series of seminars were also held in Port Said Governorate, targeting 133 parents, in addition to a workshop to train 25 social and psychological specialists. Children and families were also educated about the dangers of the internet and methods of protection, benefiting 70 children and 1,000 other participants.
In the same context, a training course was conducted for 20 council staff members on addressing the risks of cyberspace.
Training students and teachers in the governorates
A total of 541 male and female students were trained by 25 specialists and teachers on topics related to digital rights, positive parenting methods, and skills for dealing with cyberspace.
Thirty-four specialists and teachers were trained, contributing to reaching 1,890 beneficiaries, including students, teachers, and specialists, in the governorates of Ismailia, North Sinai, Matrouh, and Aswan.
In Beheira Governorate, 30 children and 50 parents participated in an awareness event that was held in cooperation with the "Haya Karima" Foundation and the National Alliance for Civil Development Work.
In Minya Governorate, 38 social and psychological specialists were trained. This is in addition to conducting seven awareness seminars targeting 235 teenagers on the safe use of the internet and the risks of technology.
Efforts to combat cybercrime
As part of its efforts to combat cybercrime, the Ministry of Interior was able to apprehend a large number of cases, including 648 cases of hacking and theft of electronic accounts, 2,616 cases of defamation and slander, 1,237 cases of threats and extortion, 1,319 cases of threats of defamation, and 250 cases of impersonation.
The ministry also organized 20 training courses for officers, personnel and civilians, benefiting 271 trainees, in areas related to combating cybercrimes.
