CAIRO - 18 March 2026: Egypt’s Interior Minister has raised the security alert to maximum readiness nationwide, particularly targeting upcoming 2026 celebrations like Eid al-Fitr, to ensure safety and prevent public disorder. 

 

Ministry of Interior raised the level of maximum readiness to secure citizens’ celebrations of Eid al Fitr in implementation of directives of Interior Minister Mahmoud Tawfiq.

 

A high-level security source at the ministry said that the key features of the ministry’s security plan aims at safeguarding celebrations, providing a safe environment for citizens and confronting any actions that may disrupt public order.

 

The source explained that the plan includes intensifying security presence around important and vital facilities, places of worship, and tourist destinations, in addition to deploying continuous security patrols in the vicinity of these locations around the clock to counter any threats to public security.

 

The plan also includes securing key roads, main routes, and public squares through the deployment of traffic units and mobile patrols, backed by modern police vehicles and equipment.

 

In a related context the Minister emphasized the continued strict monitoring of markets to prevent commodity hoarding or price manipulation. He also ordered intensified strikes against foreign currency trafficking and drug related crimes.

 

Concluding the meeting Tawfiq reaffirmed that the security of the nation and its citizens is a red line and that the police will remain a solid shield for stability and the rule of law across the country.
