The Hague – 18 March 2026: The Dutch parliament has approved a motion by the far-right, anti-immigration Party for Freedom (PVV) calling for a ban on the Muslim Brotherhood and “affiliated organizations,” Dutch news agency ANP reported on Tuesday.
The motion passed with a narrow majority of 76 votes, after support from a range of right-leaning and conservative parties, alongside PVV lawmakers Geert Wilders and Maikel Boon.
It cites a French government report warning of what it described as “long-term Muslim Brotherhood infiltration” aimed at ultimately establishing a “Sharia-governed Islamic state.”
The vote comes months after the United States designated branches of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt, Lebanon and Jordan as global terrorist organizations in January.
Washington has accused these branches of continuing to “promote, incite and glorify terrorism that directly threatens the interests of the United States and its allies.”
Several countries, including Egypt, Russia, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates have designated Muslim Brotherhood as terrorist. Jordan also outlawed the group, accusing it of links to a sabotage plot last year.
