CAIRO – 17 March 2026: The U.S. Embassy in Baghdad was reportedly targeted on Tuesday, marking a severe escalation in regional war.

According to media reports, the embassy's air defense systems were activated to counter the strike. This development followed hours after air defenses thwarted an initial rocket attack at the embassy and a drone strike caused a fire at a luxury hotel frequently used by foreign diplomats within Baghdad’s fortified Green Zone.

Separate reports indicated that an additional strike in the Iraqi capital killed four people at a residence reportedly hosting Iranian advisers.

Simultaneously, Israeli media confirmed the launch of more than 25 rockets from southern Lebanon toward northern Israel on Tuesday.

Reports indicated that the rocket fire specifically targeted the city of Kiryat Shmona. The intensification of these attacks fuels fears of a wider regional conflict.
