CAIRO - 17 March 2026: Egypt on Tuesday condemned “in the strongest terms” Israel’s ground incursion into southern Lebanon, which it described as “a flagrant violation of Lebanon’s sovereignty and a grave breach of international law and the United Nations Charter.”
“Cairo reiterates its full solidarity with the Lebanese state at this critical juncture,” the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in a statement, which also stressed the “categorical rejection of any infringement on Lebanon’s sovereignty or violation of its territory.”
Egypt affirmed its total solidarity with the Lebanese state during this critical juncture. The statement emphasized Egypt's categorical rejection of any infringement on Lebanon's territorial integrity, reiterating its unwavering support for the unity and sovereignty of the Lebanese state.
The Egyptian government called for:
Immediate Withdrawal: The prompt exit of Israeli forces from all Lebanese territories.
Resolution 1701: Full and non-selective implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701 to enable Lebanese state institutions, led by the Lebanese Army, to exercise their authority.
End to Hostilities: An immediate and comprehensive halt to all Israeli military operations, including ground incursions and airstrikes targeting Beirut and other regions.
Protection of UNIFIL: Egypt specifically condemned attacks targeting UN peacekeeping forces (UNIFIL) as a blatant violation of international norms.
Egypt warned that escalating violations are exacerbating a dire humanitarian crisis, forcing hundreds of thousands into displacement. The Ministry called upon the international community and the UN Security Council to intervene decisively, pressure Israel to halt the escalation, and prevent the region from sliding into an uncontrollable conflict.
