CAIRO – 16 March 2026: Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Migration, Badr Abdelatty, discussed the latest developments in the occupied Palestinian territories and the ongoing regional military escalation with Hussein al-Sheikh, Vice President of Palestine, during a phone call on Monday.
The Foreign Minister reiterated Egypt's unwavering support for the Palestinian cause and the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people. He expressed Egypt's firm condemnation of recent decisions regarding the annexation of parts of the West Bank and the continued expansion of settlement activities.
He stressed that such measures constitute a clear violation of international law and international legitimacy. most notably UN Security Council Resolution 2334, and fundamentally undermine the prospects for achieving a two-state solution.
Abdelatty also condemned the continued restrictions placed on Al-Aqsa Mosque by the occupying authorities, which prevent worshippers from entering. He emphasized Egypt's total rejection of any measures that alter the historical and legal status quo of the holy sites in East Jerusalem.
Minister Abdelatty also emphasized the importance of expediting the empowerment of the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza to assume its responsibilities from within the Strip.
He noted that this is a crucial step in managing the transitional phase and consolidating the ceasefire, ultimately enabling the Palestinian National Authority to assume its full responsibilities across both the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.
Furthermore, he highlighted the urgent need to support early recovery, reconstruction efforts, and the improvement of the humanitarian situation in the Strip.
The call also addressed the escalating military situation across the wider region. The Foreign Minister stressed the necessity of working toward de-escalation to prevent the conflict from spreading further.
He concluded by calling for the prioritization of diplomatic solutions and the strengthening of regional and international efforts aimed at containing the crisis and maintaining regional peace and security.
