Egyptian Minister of State for Military Production Salah Suleiman Gomblatt conducted a surprise inspection tour of the Armoured Production and Repair Factory (aka Military Factory 200or Abu Zaabal Factory)
CAIRO – 15 March 2026: Egyptian Minister of State for Military Production Salah Suleiman Gomblatt conducted a surprise inspection tour of the Armoured Production and Repair Factory (aka Military Factory 200or Abu Zaabal Factory) to monitor the manufacturing process and the latest developments in the production of the 155mm/52 caliber K9A1EGY howitzer system, which is considered one of the most advanced and effective artillery systems in the world.
The Minister of State for Military Production began his tour of Military Factory 200 by inspecting the K9A1EGY howitzer production line. He also inspected the factory's testing range, and reviewed the contract implementation status.
The Minister also discussed the completion of the first phase of howitzer manufacturing and the commencement of the second phase, which will increase the local component. The Minister also reviewed the final preparations for the delivery of the first K9A1EGY battalion to the Armed Forces.
Gomblatt issued several directives concerning the establishment of a rewards system for employees, and directed the utilization of surplus production capacity, unused lines, and unused spaces. The Minister further instructed the regular monitoring of project and contract implementation rates.
Following this, he visited Abu Zaabal Engineering Industries Company (Military Factory 100), where he inspected the workshops producing the K9A1EGY cannon. Gomblatt reviewed the results of implementing the ministerial directives he issued during his previous visit to the company last month.
The Minister also inspected the technical condition of the equipment, observing the trial operation of several machines on the company's production lines, including both new machines and repaired ones. This was done to maximize the utilization of the company's available resources. He also directed the organization of specialized training courses for employees in various manufacturing fields to ensure improved performance.
