The fragile ceasefire between Hezbollah and Israel, which was reached on November 27, 2024, collapsed after Hezbollah launched strikes on Israel following the killing of the late Iranian Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, in Israeli-US attacks. The Hezbollah’s attacks were launched despit warnings by the government not to drag the country into the ongling regional war between the US, Israel and Iran. Israel, which had repeatedly violated the ceasefire, responded with heavy strikes on southern Lebanon. Since then, attacks between the two sides have not stopped.
The Lebanese Health Ministry announced on Friday that the total number of people killed by Israeli airstrikes on Lebanon since March 2nd until March 13th reached 773 individuals, and the number of wounded reached 1,933 others. On March 3, 2026, the Lebanese government prohibited all Hezbollah security and military activities, deeming them illegal. The Lebanese government required Hezbollah to surrender its weapons to the Lebanese state and limited its activities to the political sphere in accordance with constitutional and legal frameworks.
Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam said it requests that all military and security agencies take immediate measures to implement the above, prevent any military operations, including missile or drone launches, from Lebanese territory, and arrest violators in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
The disarmament of Hezbollah was scheduled to be completed by the end of last year, but the army was unable to implement it fully. Additionally, Hezbollah has repeatedly declared that it will never relinquish its weapons.
