CAIRO – 13 March 2026: During a phone call with his Djiboutian counterpart, Abdoulkader Hussein Omar, Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptians Abroad Badr Abdelatty emphasized the importance of preserving the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of states and non-interference in their internal affairs.
The Egyptian minister also reiterated Egypt’s complete rejection and condemnation of Israel's recognition of the so-called "Somaliland," affirming full support for the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia.
He also rejected any unilateral actions that would infringe upon Somali sovereignty or undermine the foundations of stability in the country, noting that such actions constitute a violation of international law and a threat to the stability of the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea region. He stressed the importance of supporting legitimate Somali state institutions.
Additionally, the two ministers discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations and exchanged views on key regional issues.
The foreign minister emphasized the depth of Egyptian-Djiboutian relations, praising the positive momentum in bilateral ties. He commended the mutual commitment to expanding cooperation frameworks to broader horizons, thereby serving the common interests of both countries. He highlighted the importance of continuing to enhance economic, trade, and investment cooperation to achieve the shared interests of the two brotherly nations.
Minister Abdelatty also stressed the importance of increasing trade, supporting mutual investments, and creating opportunities for Egyptian companies to capitalize on opportunities available in the Djiboutian market, particularly in the areas of infrastructure, logistics, energy, agriculture, and industry. He emphasized the importance of continued coordination to implement joint projects, reflecting Egypt's commitment to strengthening trade relations between the two countries.
The two ministers also exchanged views on overall developments in the Horn of Africa, emphasizing the importance of continued coordination and consultation between their countries regarding the challenges facing the region. This coordination aims to support efforts to achieve peace, security, and stability and to strengthen joint African action, particularly given the close link between the security of the Red Sea and the stability of the Horn of Africa.
