CAIRO - 13 March 2026: Governments and international organizations are actively exploring and implementing various strategies to support small farmers, recognizing their crucial role in local food security, biodiversity, and rural economies. Key support mechanisms focus on financial assistance, technical training, improved market access, and sustainable.
The Minister of Agriculture Alaa Farouk met with Minister of Planning and Economic Development Ahmed Rostom convened on Friday, to focuse on accelerating the performance of joint development projects and integrating agricultural production with manufacturing to ensure sustainable income for rural families.
The ministers emphasized that shifting from raw production to Agri-Manufacturing is a primary driver for economic growth. This transition aims to reduce costs, minimize crop loss especially in strategic commodities and increase the added value of Egyptian products in both local and international markets.
Farouk stated that supporting small farmers is a top national priority. The government’s current strategy focuses on:
Technical and Financial Support: Providing the necessary tools and funding to ensure sustainable production.
Modernizing Infrastructure: Developing irrigation systems and agricultural cooperatives to transfer modern farming practices to the fields.
Job Creation: Expanding manufacturing units within rural areas to create real employment opportunities for youth and women.
The ministers agreed to link all agricultural development projects with the presidential initiative "Decent Life." The goal is to transform targeted villages from mere consumption centers into "Productive Hubs."
Minister of Planning noted that the first phase of "Decent Life" is nearing completion, with preparations underway to launch the second phase. He highlighted that the project has already significantly improved living standards and created jobs, asserting that the agriculture sector remains a cornerstone of the Egyptian economy and a vital pillar for achieving national food security.
