BAGHDAD – 12 March 2026: The Egyptian Embassy in Baghdad has urged citizens planning to leave Iraq via Jordan to strictly follow departure procedures, warning that failure to comply could result in being denied exit.
Egypt has been evacuating citizens stranded in various Arab countries who wish to return to their homeland amid mounting military escalation in the Middle East.
Iran has continued daily drone and missile attacks on several regional neighbors with a significant US military presence, including Iraq and Jordan, in response to US‑Israeli strikes on Iranian cities since February 28.
The embassy said it has obtained approval from Jordanian authorities for 173 Egyptian nationals to depart Iraqi lands through the Trebil/Karameh crossing linking Jordan and Iraq.
Highlighting departure guidelines, the embassy stressed that travelers must pass through the border crossing to leave Iraq on the same day they are scheduled to depart Jordan for Egypt.
Travelers must hold confirmed onward bookings from Amman to Cairo via Queen Alia Airport, or a ferry reservation from Port of Aqaba, the embassy said.
Jordanian authorities will verify tickets to ensure passengers leave the country the same day.
The embassy also advised citizens to coordinate with the designated bus operator for group transport from the border crossing to travel points and avoid heading to the crossing without prior arrangements.
Egypt’s consulate in Baghdad said it continues to receive departure requests from citizens through its 24-hour hotline.
