CAIRO – 12 March 2026: The Iranian war continues to escalate daily, impacting regional and global stability. Several Arab nations are currently facing direct attacks on critical infrastructure, including international airports and oil fields.
The UAE Ministry of Defense announced on Thursday that its air defenses successfully neutralized an Iranian drone and missile attack. Officials confirmed that air defense systems and fighter jets successfully intercepted multiple threats over the past 24 hours.
This follows an announcement by the Abu Dhabi Media Office on Wednesday regarding a fire at the old Abu Dhabi Airport. The blaze was contained after debris fell from a successful interception by defense systems.
The office explained that the fragments ignited the fire upon impact; however, authorities confirmed the situation is under control. Further details regarding the extent of the damage or potential casualties have not yet been disclosed.
In Iraq, loud explosions were reported near Erbil International Airport, the capital of the Kurdistan Region, followed by a massive fire. Security forces have established a perimeter around the airport to ensure civilian safety and secure vital facilities.
Authorities are still assessing the extent of the damage and the number of casualties.
In a separate incident, Reuters reported on a preliminary investigation by Iraqi authorities regarding an attack at a local port. Findings indicate that two explosive-laden boats originating from Iran collided with two fuel tankers, causing significant fires.
Emergency teams took urgent measures to control the blaze and prevent it from spreading. Iraqi authorities confirmed that investigations are ongoing to determine full responsibility and ensure the safety of workers in the area.
UN Security Council Condemnation
The UN Security Council adopted a Gulf-Jordanian draft resolution on Wednesday condemning the Iranian attacks on Gulf states and Jordan. The council characterized the strikes as a violation of international law and a direct threat to international peace and security.
The resolution passed with 13 votes in favor, while Russia and China abstained. The document affirmed that the attacks constitute a dangerous escalation and called for immediate respect for state sovereignty.
Bahrain’s representative to the United Nations emphasized that the region has witnessed a series of serious strikes on infrastructure and residential areas. He stressed that the Gulf region remains a cornerstone of global economic stability and that its protection is a collective international responsibility.
