CAIRO - 11 MARCH 2026: Egypt's Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty has convened a high-scale coordination meeting with several ministers and state bodies to review key issues facing Egyptians abroad and to discuss ways to modernize the services offered to expatriate communities.

According to the meeting's summary, the discussions focused on practical ways to strengthen communication with Egyptians overseas and streamline the procedures that directly affect daily life for families living abroad, from paperwork to education and customs rules.

Participants exchanged views on several files that are frequently raised by expatriates, including customs-related procedures for mobile phones and cars, and the recognition and equivalency of school certificates for children of Egyptians abroad.

The meeting also reviewed the continuation of flexible ratios for accepting Egyptian students from abroad into Egyptian universities and faculties, taking into account the different educational systems those students come from.

A major track of the meeting was the modernization of consular services, with an emphasis on digitising procedures, easing the issuance of official documents, and facilitating banking updates.

The discussions also covered mechanisms to provide legal support to Egyptian citizens overseas, and initiatives designed to strengthen ties between expatriates and the home country.

The meeting also addressed several recurring concerns among expatriate communities, including issues related to conscription, secondments for employees working abroad, and the Beit Al-Watan initiative, alongside the idea of studying additional incentives and facilitations to ease burdens on Egyptians abroad and make it simpler to deal with different government entities.

At the end of the meeting, ministers and representatives agreed to maintain regular coordination and consultations, with the aim of shaping practical steps and solutions that improve services and respond more directly to expatriates needs, in line with the state s emphasis on supporting Egyptians overseas and strengthening their connection to Egypt.
