Egypt’s FM receives Secretary General of the Council of Arab Economic Unity

CAIRO – 10 March 2026: Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptians Abroad, Badr Abdelatty, received on Tuesday the Secretary General of the Council of Arab Economic Unity, Mohamed El-Ni.

The Foreign Minister began the meeting by congratulating the Secretary General on his reappointment for a second term, which begins next June. He emphasized Egypt's deep appreciation for the Council's role as a key instrument for strengthening joint Arab economic action, as well as Egypt's commitment to actively supporting the institutions of the League of Arab States and achieving its integration goals.

Minister Abdelatty outlined Egypt's vision regarding the important role of the specialized Arab federations operating under the Council's umbrella. He noted that they represent vital platforms that bring together Arab expertise to exchange experiences and modernize management and marketing tools.

He stressed that activating the role of these federations directly contributes to raising the efficiency of Arab production and provides member states' economies with genuine competitive advantages, enabling them to compete effectively in global markets.

The meeting also included a review of the Council’s priorities for the next phase, particularly regarding the acceleration of economic integration projects, the facilitation of intra-regional trade and the movement of people and capital, and the development of joint projects.

Minister Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s support for the Council, as the host country, and for its efforts to activate future economic cooperation initiatives in a way that serves the interests of Arab nations.
