Sisi urges second phase of Gaza ceasefire, rejects Iranian attacks on Arab countries in call with Greek PM

CAIRO - 5 March 2026: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi emphasized the necessity of implementing the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement during a Thursday phone call with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

According to Presidency Spokesperson Mohamed El-Shennawy, Sisi stressed that the agreement must be executed in full, including the unobstructed entry of sufficient humanitarian aid and the commencement of early recovery and reconstruction efforts in the Strip.

The leaders also addressed broader regional escalations. Sisi affirmed Egypt’s categorical rejection of Iranian attacks on Arab nations, stating Egypt’s full support for the sovereignty and security of neighboring states. He called for an end to hostilities and the pursuit of peaceful solutions to maintain regional stability.

Mitsotakis expressed alignment with the President’s vision, warning of the negative impacts ongoing conflict has on regional stability and the global economy. He noted that Greece, currently holding a seat on the UN Security Council, remains keen on coordinating with Egypt to prevent further escalation.

Beyond regional security, the two leaders praised the "momentum" in Egyptian-Greek bilateral relations. They agreed to intensify political consultation and coordination on shared interests moving forward.
