CAIRO – 5 March 2026: Egypt’s Cabinet Spokesman Mohamed El-Homsany said that the government is working according to clear scenarios to address the regional war between Iran, Israel and the US, ensuring that citizens are not affected by its repercussions. He also confirmed that a strategic stockpile of basic food commodities is available and sufficient for several months.

Mohamed El-Homsany said in statements to Extra News that the state possesses adequate reserves of essential food commodities, stressing the government’s commitment to providing citizens’ needs in sufficient quantities and easing any concerns about the availability of basic goods.

El-Homsany noted that the government has stepped up efforts to regulate markets by strengthening the role of regulatory authorities and preventing any unjustified price increases or monopolistic practices related to essential commodities.

He added that the government is implementing a comprehensive plan to meet the country’s natural gas and electricity needs in coordination with the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources and the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy. The plan includes diversifying natural gas supply sources and using regasification vessels to secure supplies from multiple sources.

El-Homsany also said the state is working to boost production, expand exploration activities, and settle the dues of foreign partners to encourage new investments. He added that plans are in place to introduce around 2,500 megawatts of renewable energy capacity before next summer to help meet rising electricity demand.
