CAIRO - 5 March 2026: Egypt’s Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources categorically denied the circulating reports and false information regarding the liquefied natural gas (LNG) tanker involved in an incident off the Libyan coast on Wednesday.

The Ministry affirmed that the tanker was not destined for any Egyptian port and is not linked to any contracts for the supply or receipt of LNG shipments to Egypt.

The Ministry stressed that claims suggesting any connection between Egypt and the tanker are completely unfounded. It urged all media outlets to verify information through official sources within the Ministry before publishing or circulating such reports, in order to uphold professional journalistic standards and prevent confusion or misinformation.

Finally, the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources affirmed its right to pursue all necessary legal measures, both domestically and internationally, against those who disseminate rumors or misinformation that harm Egyptian national interests.
