CAIRO - 3 March 2026: The Egyptian Ambassador to Lebanon, Alaa Moussa, affirmed on Tuesday that the ambassadors of the five-member committee support the Lebanese state during this critical period and reject any action that infringes upon its sovereignty or undermines its authority to decide on matters of war and peace.

Moussa stated in a press conference following a meeting between the ambassadors of the five-member committee and Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, "We affirmed our full support for the Lebanese Cabinet's decisions yesterday." He expressed his confidence that Lebanon's allies will continue their efforts to de-escalate the situation, emphasizing that diplomacy remains the most important avenue for resolving disputes.

Efforts to Contain the Current Situation

The Egyptian ambassador added that the meeting addressed the necessity of working to contain the current situation. The Lebanese president also discussed the Cabinet's decisions, how they were reached, and the motivations behind them. He noted that the Lebanese president addressed the role of the five-member committee and Lebanon's allies in mitigating the damage to Lebanon and the region.

Discussions also covered matters related to the Lebanese army's operations in the coming period and the measures being taken by the Lebanese state to prevent further repercussions for Lebanon and its people.

The Egyptian ambassador to Lebanon, Alaa Moussa, confirmed that the Paris conference to support the Lebanese army, which was scheduled for March 5, has been postponed until April due to regional developments. He emphasized that the postponement does not mean cancellation and that the international commitment to supporting Lebanon remains unwavering.

Moussa explained at a press conference following the meeting between the ambassadors of the five-member committee and Lebanese President Joseph Aoun that the meeting with President Aoun was to hear his assessments and vision for dealing with the current and future situation, as well as to brief the ambassadors on the recent decisions made by the Lebanese cabinet.

The ambassador noted that Lebanon's allies are committed to supporting it, emphasizing that the five-member committee is working in coordination with various capitals to convey the messages put forth by President Joseph Aoun. He added that there is an international and regional effort underway to spare Lebanon and the region the consequences of the current escalation.

Regarding the Lebanese government's decision to ban Hezbollah's activities and compel it to surrender its weapons, Moussa stated: "No one can object to these decisions, and everyone supports them."

He clarified that the Lebanese army is responsible for addressing the continued rocket fire, and that the second phase of the weapons control plan is ongoing and irreversible, bolstered by recent government measures.

He added that diplomatic efforts are continuing to reach a solution and settlement to halt the attacks as quickly as possible, stressing that the continuation of the confrontations will lead to widespread damage extending throughout the region, and that all parties are working to end them swiftly.
