Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration, and Egyptian Expatriate Affairs Dr. Badr Abdelatty held a telephone conversation today with Lebanese Prime Minister Dr. Nawaf Salam
CAIRO – 2 March 2026: After the recent escalation between Lebanese Hezbollah and Israel, Badr Abdelatty, Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptians Abroad, spoke by phone with Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam amid rising regional military tensions.
Ambassador Tamim Khallaf, spokesperson for the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, said Minister Abdelatty expressed close monitoring of developments in Lebanon and reiterated Egypt’s full support for the country and its people. He received a briefing on the impact of Israeli attacks on Lebanon and emphasized the need to prevent further escalation and ensure an immediate cessation of military operations.
Minister Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to Lebanon’s sovereignty, unity, territorial integrity, and the safety and well-being of its people.
Pro-Iran Hezbollah launched on Monday early attacks on Israel in retaliation for the killing of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei by US and Israeli strikes. The Hezbollah’s attacks were launched despit warnings by the government not to drag the country into the ongling regional war between the US, Israel and Iran. In response, Israeli army launched attacks on Southern Lebanon killing 31 people and injuring 149 injured.
As a result, the Lebanese government prohibits all Hezbollah security and military activities, deeming them illegal. The Lebanese government required Hezbollah to surrender its weapons to the Lebanese state and limited its activities to the political sphere in accordance with constitutional and legal frameworks.
