CAIRO – 2 March 2026: The Lebanese government prohibits all Hezbollah security and military activities, deeming them illegal. The Lebanese government required Hezbollah to surrender its weapons to the Lebanese state and limited its activities to the political sphere in accordance with constitutional and legal frameworks.
Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam said it requests that all military and security agencies take immediate measures to implement the above, prevent any military operations, including missile or drone launches, from Lebanese territory, and arrest violators in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
The government called on the Lebanese Army Command to immediately and decisively implement the plan presented during the Cabinet session on 16/02/2026, particularly the provisions concerning the restriction of weapons north of the Litani River, using all necessary measures to ensure its full implementation.
The Cabinet urged the guarantor states of the Declaration of Cessation of Hostilities to secure a clear and final Israeli commitment to halt all attacks on Lebanese territory, while reaffirming Lebanon’s full adherence to the Declaration and to maintaining peace and stability. It also declares Lebanon’s readiness to resume negotiations with civilian participation under international oversight.
Pro-Iran Hezbollah launched on Monday early attacks on Israel in retaliation for the killing of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei by US and Israeli strikes. The Hezbollah’s attacks were launched despit warnings by the government not to drag the country into the ongling regional war between the US, Israel and Iran. In response, Israeli army launched attacks on Southern Lebanon killing 31 people and injuring 149 injured.
Earlier today, the Lebanese Army issued a statement saying that Hezbollah has ignored national warnings and Lebanon’s military realities, prompting the government to take a decisive stance. The statement called for an official declaration making the disarmament of illegal militias effective immediately and rejecting the so-called “resistance.”
The statement added that anyone using the term “resistance” or engaging in unauthorized military actions will be held accountable. It also called for dissolving Hezbollah’s military wing, pursuing and arresting perpetrators, and restoring national sovereignty through swift and decisive measures.
The disarmament of Hezbollah was scheduled to be completed by the end of last year, but the army was unable to implement it fully. Additionally, Hezbollah has repeatedly declared that it will never relinquish its weapons.
