CAIRO – 1 March 2026: A telephone call took place between Dr. Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptians Abroad, and Fuad Hussein, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iraq, to follow up on the rapidly escalating developments and dangerous military escalation in the region.
During the call, Minister Abdelatty stressed the need for coordinated regional and international efforts to de-escalate tensions and contain the current situation. He warned of the catastrophic consequences of any expansion of the conflict and emphasized that prioritizing political and diplomatic solutions is the only way to prevent the region from sliding into widespread chaos, the devastating impact of which would affect the security, stability, and resources of all its peoples. He underscored that dialogue remains the only viable path to addressing the current crises.
The Foreign Minister condemned the targeting of the territories of Iraq, the Arab Gulf states, and Jordan, reiterating Egypt’s categorical rejection of any violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Arab states.
In this context, Minister Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s full solidarity with Iraq and all countries in confronting these threats, stressing the importance of respecting the principles of good neighborliness and adherence to international law in order to safeguard regional peace and security.
