CAIRO- 1 March 2026: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi spoke over the phone with Sultan Oman, Sultan Haitham bin Tariq, expressed his condemnation of the targeting of the Omani Port of Duqm today.
Spokesman for the Presidency Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy said the two leaders discussed developments of the military escalation in the region. The President emphasized Egypt's firm position advocating the prioritization of dialogue and peaceful means to settle regional crises, warning of the grave repercussions that could result from the region sliding into a state of chaos due to this escalation.
President El-Sisi commended the Sultanate of Oman’s significant role in mediating and facilitating negotiations between the United States and Iran regarding the Iranian nuclear file.
President El-Sisi reiterated Egypt's full solidarity with the Arab nations that have been subject to Iranian aggression, emphasizing Egypt's categorical rejection of any threats or targeting of the security, sovereignty, and stability of Arab states. The President also underscored Egypt's full support for the measures taken by these countries to safeguard their security and protect their peoples.
For his part, Sultan Haitham bin Tariq expressed his appreciation for Egypt’s position in support of resolving crises through peaceful means and its commitment to containing current tensions. He affirmed his pride in the historical fraternal relations that bind Egypt and the Sultanate of Oman. Concluding their call, the two leaders agreed to continue consultations and coordination between the two countries, in a manner that contributes to containing the current escalation and sparing the region the risks of instability.
A security source reported that the commercial port of Duqm was targeted by two drones, Omani News Agency reported. One drone hit a mobile workers’ accommodation, injuring one expatriate worker, while debris from the other landed near fuel tanks, causing no casualties or material damage.
The Sultanate of Oman condemned the attack and affirmed that it is taking all necessary measures to safeguard the country and the well-being of its residents.
Also, Omani Maritime Security Center announced that the oil tanker (SKYLIGHT), flying the flag of the Republic of Palau, was targeted (5) nautical miles north of Khasab Port in Musandam Governorate.
All crew members of the tanker, consisting of (20) people, including (15) people of Indian nationality, and (5) people of Iranian nationality, were evacuated.
Initial reports also indicate that four members of the ship's crew sustained varying injuries and were transferred to receive the necessary treatment.
The attacks on Oman, and other Gulf States like Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the UAE, Bahrain by Iran are the reprecustions of preemitive US/Israeli strikes against Iran.
