CAIRO – 27 February 2026: Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptians Abroad, Badr Abdelatty, held two telephone conversations on Thursday with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi and International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi.
The discussions focused on the progress and substance of the latest round of negotiations between the United States and Iran in Geneva.
Ambassador Tamim Khallaf, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that the Foreign Minister received briefings from both sides regarding the proceedings of the Geneva talks.
During the calls, Minister Abdelatty reiterated Egypt’s firm support for diplomatic efforts to resolve outstanding issues. He emphasized the importance of maintaining the momentum of the negotiation process to prevent further regional escalation.
The Minister further stressed the necessity of resolving all disputes and concerns through compromise, warning that military alternatives would result in dire consequences for the region.
For their part, the two officials expressed their appreciation for Egypt’s ongoing efforts to de-escalate regional tensions. They underscored their commitment to continued coordination and consultation to reach a comprehensive settlement regarding the Iranian nuclear file and to ensure long-term regional security and stability.
