CAIRO – 25 February 2026: Egypt on Wednesday condemned an attack by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia that targeted civilians in North Darfur State, leaving dozens dead and injured.

At least 28 people were killed and 39 others injured, including 10 women, according to the Sudan Doctors Network, after the RSF carried out a major raid in the town of Misteriha this week.

The Mahamid tribe in Sudan put the toll at 38 deaths and 176 missing following the attack, raising concerns over their fate.

The assault also targeted the area’s only health center.

Since the outbreak of the war in Sudan in April 2023, the paramilitary RSF group has committed ethnically motivated killings, widespread sexual violence, and enforced disappearances, alongside persistent attacks on a health system nearing collapse.

Egypt Condemns Attack

Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs denounced in the strongest terms the deadly attack and also condemned the targeting of the health center and the assault on its healthcare personnel.

Egypt reiterated its complete rejection of all forms of violence and violations against civilians and medical facilities, stressing that such acts constitute a flagrant breach of international humanitarian law.

Cairo underscored the necessity of respecting and protecting healthcare facilities and medical workers at all times.

Preserving Sudan’s Unity

The statement renewed Egypt’s firm commitment to preserving Sudan’s unity, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the cohesion of its national institutions.

Egypt also rejected any actions that could undermine Sudan’s state institutions or threaten its stability.

Humanitarian Truce

Cairo further stressed the urgent need for a humanitarian truce as a step toward a sustainable ceasefire, while prioritizing comprehensive political solutions that meet the aspirations of the Sudanese people.

Egypt affirmed it will continue its regional and international engagements to support efforts aimed at ending the conflict in Sudan, including through the international Quad mechanism.

These efforts, the ministry said, also aim to strengthen the humanitarian response, including ensuring safe and sustained access for aid to affected areas to help alleviate the suffering of the Sudanese people.
