CAIRO - 21 February 2026: The Egyptian National Railways Authority is committed to improving services for people with disabilities and senior citizens, stemming from its responsibility to care for them, promote their rights, and provide them with more suitable services both inside stations and on trains, in accordance with the directives of the Ministry of Transport.
Special ticketing windows
The Authority has allocated a number of special ticketing windows at main stations, alleviating the burden, on elderly citizens and people with disabilities, of waiting at traditional ticket counters.
In parallel, regular awareness programs are implemented for staff on how to interact with this valued segment of the passenger public and meet their needs, ensuring that service is provided with dignity and ease.
Electric carts at stations, designated seats
The Authority places great importance on facilitating passenger movement within stations, providing electric carts and wheelchairs to transport them free of charge to ticket offices and station platforms.
Customer service desks have also been established at station entrances to provide the necessary support until they complete their booking procedures and reach their seats on the train.
The Egyptian National Railways (ENR) has worked to improve service quality on board its trains, allocating four seats in each carriage of regular trains for people with disabilities, along with clear signage.
In a gesture of civility, a number of customer service staff have been trained on using sign language to ensure effective communication with deaf and hard-of-hearing passengers. Additionally, a guide has been issued for ticket office staff and train supervisors on best practices for interacting with differently-abled people.
Talgo Luxury Trains: A Leap Forward in Accessibility
The Talgo luxury train carriages represent a significant advancement in this area. Designed to allow easy access for wheelchairs, carriage number 6 in each train is equipped with a ramp and fully accessible restrooms to meet the needs of people with disabilities, providing a world-class travel experience on Egyptian soil.
In compliance with Law No. 10 of 2018, the Railway Authority is offering a 50 percent discount on tickets for air-conditioned, regular, and sleeper trains for people with disabilities and their companions using the Integrated Services Card.
The Authority also allows booking air-conditioned train tickets up to 15 days in advance through stations, university offices, and authorized ticket agents, while tickets for non-air-conditioned trains are available 48 hours before departure. This aims to provide greater flexibility for passengers and reduce pressure on ticket counters.
