PM returns to Cairo after participating in inaugural meeting of Board of Peace in Washington

CAIRO – 20 February 2026: Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly returned to Cairo, Friday after participating, on behalf of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, in the first meeting of Board of Peace in Washington, D.C.

In his remarks, Madbouly expressed his gratitude to U.S. President Donald Trump for convening the Board of Peace’s first meeting. He emphasized that without the U.S. President's direct involvement and commitment to regional stability, the cessation of the war in Gaza—a goal previously considered unattainable—would not have been possible.

The Prime Minister affirmed Egypt's full support for President Trump's plan to establish a new era of peace and coexistence. He underscored that this vision must ensure the Palestinian people enjoy their right to self-determination and the establishment of a sovereign state in accordance with international law. Furthermore, he emphasized Egypt's appreciation for President Trump's stance against the annexation of the West Bank.

Madbouly highlighted the critical importance of maintaining a connection between the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, enabling the Palestinian Authority to resume its governance responsibilities. He expressed Egypt's formal support for the Board of Peace’s mandate as the supreme body managing the transitional period in Gaza.

During his address, the Prime Minister stressed the necessity of empowering Palestinians to manage their own affairs through the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza. He noted that this committee must be granted the capacity to operate effectively from within the Gaza Strip and across all its territories.

Madbouly also emphasized the importance of defining specific tasks for the Gaza Executive Council to support the National Committee's work. He reaffirmed Egypt's ongoing commitment to training Palestinian police officers to maintain internal security and order within the Gaza Strip.
