CAIRO – 14 February 2026: Acting on the directives of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, Dr. Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptians Abroad, headed Egypt’s delegation to the African Union Summit held on Saturday, 14 February.
The summit, attended by African heads of state and government, focused on enhancing joint African action and addressing the political, security, and developmental challenges facing the continent.
On behalf of the President, the Foreign Minister was scheduled to present the report on the activities of the Peace and Security Council and the overall state of peace and security in Africa, in light of Egypt’s chairmanship of the Council during February 2026. The presentation reviewed key security developments across the continent and emphasized the importance of strengthening collective efforts to promote stability and resolve conflicts.
Minister Abdelatty also delivered the President’s report on post-conflict reconstruction and development in Africa, highlighting continental efforts to support countries emerging from conflict and to advance peacebuilding and sustainable development. In addition, he presented the report on the activities of the Steering Committee of Heads of State and Government of the African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD), outlining progress in advancing development projects and fostering economic integration across the continent.
The summit’s agenda also includes discussions on strategic priorities such as achieving sustainable development, enhancing the institutional performance of the African Union, the Union’s membership in the G20, combating diseases and epidemics, addressing climate change, and reforming the UN Security Council. These efforts aim to strengthen regional integration and enhance the capacity of the Union’s institutions to respond effectively to current challenges while fulfilling the aspirations of African peoples for stability and prosperity.
