CAIRO – 13 February 2026: Lieutenant General Ahmed Khalifa, Chief of Staff of the Egyptian Armed Forces, participated in the closing session of the first conference of Chiefs of Staff of Mediterranean and Sub-Saharan countries, held in Libya.

 

The conference addressed ways to enhance military and security cooperation among participating nations to strengthen regional security and stability, safeguard common interests, combat irregular migration, and fight terrorism, within the framework of international law and with full respect for the sovereignty of states over their territories.

 

During the visit, the Chief of Staff met with Lieutenant General Khaled Haftar, Chief of the General Staff of the Libyan Arab Armed Forces. The meeting, attended by delegations from both countries, focused on expanding prospects for bilateral military cooperation.

 

For his part, the Chief of Staff of the Libyan Arab Armed Forces praised Egypt’s participation in the conference and highlighted the pivotal role played by Egypt in supporting security and stability across the region.

 

On the sidelines of the conference, Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan Arab Armed Forces, and Lieutenant General Saddam Haftar, Deputy Commander-in-Chief, met with Lieutenant General Ahmed Khalifa. They commended the depth of military cooperation between the Libyan and Egyptian Armed Forces.

 

At the conclusion of the official visit, Lieutenant General Ahmed Khalifa and his accompanying delegation returned to Egypt. They were accorded an official reception, including a guard of honor and the playing of the national anthems of both countries by military bands.

 

The Chief of Staff emphasized the historical ties binding the two nations and the alignment of views in their military relations, which serve the mutual interests of both sides.
