CAIRO - 11 February 2026: Li Fung, Head of the OHCHR office in Sudan, has raised alarm over serious violations occurring in areas controlled by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

Fong stated that arbitrary arrests of civilians, sexual violence, torture, and attacks on civilian infrastructure, including schools and mosques "pose a grave threat to the population." She added that civilians are at times targeted based on their ethnicity, while hate speech inciting violence has become increasingly widespread.

In an interview with journalist Mona Shoukry on Al-Qahera TV News Channel, Fong warned of the growing danger posed by the proliferation of irregular armed groups across various regions of Sudan.

She highlighted efforts to arm communities and the forced recruitment of children, depriving them of their childhood and further deepening the humanitarian crisis, particularly amid the collapse of essential public services.

Highlighting Egypt’s role in seeking solutions

Addressing regional efforts to resolve the conflict, Fong noted that Egypt and other neighboring countries are playing a vital role in supporting mediation initiatives at both regional and international levels. She also commended efforts to provide humanitarian assistance to Sudanese refugees.

Fong stressed the urgent need for stronger international action to stem the flow of heavy weapons into Sudan and curb ongoing violence, particularly in Darfur and Kordofan.

She concluded by calling on the international community to intensify efforts to protect civilians, ensure sustained humanitarian access, and work toward a lasting and peaceful resolution to the Sudanese crisis.
