CAIRO – 10 February 2026: Journalist Diaa Rashwan was named Egypt's Minister of Information on Tuesday as part of a cabinet reshuffle approved by the Egyptian House of Representatives.

The appointment of Rashwan comes in recognition of his extensive experience and prominent leadership in diplomatic and political affairs. He has been a pivotal figure in addressing key national issues, most notably in foreign policy, the Gaza crisis, and his central role as coordinator for the National Dialogue platform.

 

Biography of Diaa Rashwan

Born: January 1, 1960.

Education:

Graduated from the Faculty of Economics and Political Science, Cairo University (Department of Political Science) in 1981.

Received a Master's degree in Political History from Sorbonne University, Paris, in 1985.

Professional Career:

1981–2011: Served in various capacities at the Al-Ahram Center for Political and Strategic Studies, progressing from research assistant to researcher, expert, and head of the Political Systems Unit and the Islamic Movements Studies Program. He served as Deputy Director of the Center from 2009 to 2011.

2011–2017: Director of the Al-Ahram Center for Political and Strategic Studies.

2017–Present: Advisor at the Al-Ahram Center for Political and Strategic Studies.

Minister of Information: Appointed February 2026.

State Information Service (SIS): Chairman since June 2017.

National Dialogue: General Coordinator since June 2022.

Member of the "Committee of 50" that drafted the 2014 Egyptian Constitution, representing the Journalists Syndicate.

Former member of the Supreme Press Council and the National Press Authority.

Served three terms as President of Journalists Syndicate: (2013–2015, 2019–2021, and 2021–2023). Member since 1983.

General Union of Arab Journalists: Honorary President.

Arab Media Award (Dubai): Chairman of the Board of Directors (2016–present); formerly Vice Chairman (2013–2016).

Authored and co-authored more than 25 books and dozens of academic studies in Arabic, English, and French.

Published hundreds of articles in Egyptian, Arab, and international newspapers.

Frequently appears as a political analyst on major Egyptian and international television networks.

Participated in dozens of academic seminars and international conferences worldwide.
