Egyptian, Iranian FMs discuss regional developments in phone call

CAIRO - 10 February 2026: Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration, and Egyptian Expatriate Affairs, Dr. Badr Abdelatty, received Tuesday a phone call from Abbas Araqchi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, as part of efforts to de-escalate tensions in the region.

During the call, the Iranian Foreign Minister commended Egypt's active role and tireless efforts to reduce tensions in the region and reach understandings regarding the Iranian nuclear program.
 
The Iranian Minister briefed Minister Abdelatty on the developments concerning the recent round of negotiations between the United States and Iran, hosted by the Sultanate of Oman. Minister Abdelatty expressed Egypt's full support for these negotiations and all efforts aimed at de-escalation, promoting dialogue, and resolving all concerns through diplomatic and political channels, thereby strengthening regional security and achieving stability and development for all the peoples of the region.
 
Minister Abdelatty stressed the importance of continuing the course of negotiations between the American and Iranian sides, in order to reach a peaceful and consensual settlement that addresses the concerns of all parties, based on mutual respect and common benefit, stressing the need to overcome any differences during this delicate stage, and emphasizing that dialogue remains the primary option to avoid any escalation in the region.
