CAIRO – 9 February 2026: Egypt has strongly condemned the recent measures approved by Israel aimed at deepening its illegal annexation of Palestinian territories in the occupied West Bank.
The contested decisions include declassifying the land registry, facilitating the seizure of Palestinian property, and transferring the powers of the Hebron municipality—including the Ibrahimi Mosque—to the occupation authorities. The measures also impose new regulations that streamline the demolition of Palestinian structures.
In a statement issued Monday, Egypt affirmed that these actions constitute a flagrant violation of international law and resolutions of international legitimacy.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the moves as a deliberate attempt to undermine the existing legal and historical status quo and a clear contradiction of the 1997 Hebron Agreement. The statement further noted that these policies are designed to entrench annexation, expand settlements, and impose total Israeli control over Palestinian land.
Egypt emphasized its categorical rejection of all annexation and settlement policies, as well as any unilateral measures that undermine the prospects for peace and a two-state solution. Such actions, the statement warned, lead to heightened tension and instability across the occupied Palestinian territories and the wider region.
Egypt called upon the international community, specifically the UN Security Council, to fulfill its legal and moral responsibilities. It urged immediate intervention to halt these violations, ensure respect for international humanitarian law, and protect the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people—foremost among them the right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state based on the June 4, 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
