1- The dry dock was built by order of Muhammad Ali Pasha in the 1820s.
 
2- Construction officially began in 1835.
 
3- Its construction faced numerous obstacles from the very beginning.
 
4- The purpose of its construction was Muhammad Ali Pasha's desire to establish a ship maintenance facility after building a strong navy.
 
5- Muhammad Ali Pasha commissioned a French engineer to design the dry dock, and construction began on two docks. However, work was halted due to the war.
