Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty - file
CAIRO - 7 February 2026: A telephone call took place on Friday evening between Dr. Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration, and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs, and Badr Al-Busaidi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Sultanate of Oman, as part of ongoing consultations and coordination between the two brotherly countries.
Ambassador Tamim Khallaf, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that the Omani Minister briefed Minister Abdelatty on the progress of the negotiations held in Oman between the United States and Iran.
Minister Abdelatty expressed his appreciation for the important and constructive role played by the Sultanate of Oman in this vital matter and for hosting the negotiations. He affirmed that Egypt will continue its tireless efforts to de-escalate tensions and contain the heightened tensions in the region.
For his part, Minister Al-Busaidi commended Egypt's persistent efforts and intensive contacts with the concerned parties over the past few weeks, which contributed to bridging the gaps and paving the way for negotiations. He also praised the Egyptian diplomatic initiatives aimed at defusing crises in the region.
During the call, Minister Abdelatty affirmed that Egypt will continue to support all efforts aimed at de-escalation and reaching a mutually acceptable settlement on the Iranian nuclear issue that addresses the concerns of all parties. He stressed the importance of building upon the progress achieved in these negotiations to achieve regional security and stability and prevent the region from sliding into new waves of instability.
In a related context, the Foreign Minister received a phone call on Saturday, February 7, from Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency. The call addressed developments related to the Iranian nuclear issue, and Minister Abdelatty reiterated Egypt's ongoing efforts to de-escalate tensions in the region.
He emphasized the importance of continuing regional and international efforts to reduce tensions and promote diplomatic solutions, stressing that Egypt will continue its intensive contacts and tireless efforts to support reaching settlements that strengthen regional and international security and stability.
