CAIRO – 6 February 2026: Egypt has expressed its full support for the resumption of negotiations between the United States and Iran during a meeting held Friday in Muscat, under the auspices of Oman.
In an official statement, Egypt emphasized that these efforts must be rooted in a conducive environment built on good faith and mutual respect. Such a foundation, the statement noted, is essential for reaching a sustainable agreement as quickly as possible, thereby sparing the region the dangers of military escalation and the catastrophic consequences that would be borne by all neighboring countries.
Egypt stressed that there are no military solutions to this issue, asserting that the only viable path forward is through dialogue and negotiation that takes into account the interests of all concerned parties.
Egypt reaffirmed its commitment to supporting efforts aimed at reaching an agreement on the Iranian nuclear file in a manner that benefits both negotiating parties and the broader region. This commitment involves close coordination with regional partners.
Egypt expressed appreciation for the constructive efforts exerted by Qatar, Turkey, Oman, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan. The statement conveyed hope that these sincere endeavors will lead to positive progress, strengthening the prospects for stability and peace across the Middle East.
Egypt urged the international community to intensify its efforts to address nuclear non-proliferation risks in a comprehensive manner.
This includes supporting the goal of a Middle East free of nuclear weapons—encompassing all countries in the region without exception—as well as achieving the universality of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) and subjecting all regional nuclear facilities to the International Atomic Energy Agency’s (IAEA) Comprehensive Safeguards Agreement.
