CAIRO – 5 February 2026: Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi said he and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan stressed their rejection of any attempts to circumvent or obstruct the implementation of US President Donald Trump’s peace plan in Gaza.

During a joint press conference in Cairo on Wednesday, El-Sisi said he discussed the latest developments in the Gaza Strip with Erdoğan following the success of efforts led by Egypt, Türkiye, Qatar, and the US, which resulted in the Sharm El-Sheikh agreement to halt the war in Gaza.

The Egyptian president praised Trump’s role in reaching the ceasefire and emphasized the importance of fully implementing the agreement in all its phases, in line with UN Security Council Resolution 2803.

This includes ensuring the delivery of humanitarian aid and preventing a renewed escalation, he added.

El-Sisi reaffirmed Egypt and Türkiye’s long-standing position in support of a two-state solution, calling for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions.

He also underscored the need to mobilize international efforts to support early recovery and reconstruction.

The two leaders further rejected any actions that would infringe upon the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, stressing the necessity of ending all unilateral practices in the occupied territories.

These include settlement expansion in the West Bank and violations of the legal and historical status of holy sites in Jerusalem, El-Sisi added.
