CAIRO - 4 February 2026: Egypt’s Supreme Council for Media Regulation (SCMR) has officially begun implementing a ban on the popular gaming platform "Roblox" as of Wednesday, citing concerns over violent content.

In a statement, SCMR Chairman Khaled Abdel Aziz confirmed that the decision was reached in coordination with the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA). The council’s monitoring department has been tasked with overseeing the technical execution of the block across all domestic internet service providers.

The move follows a recent briefing by Essam El-Amir, Deputy Head of the SCMR, during a Senate general session. El-Amir had previously signaled that the regulator was working closely with the NTRA to finalize the technological measures necessary to restrict access to the platform.

The move has sparked a wave of reactions across social media, with some parents sharing videos of their children’s apparent staged reactions to the sudden loss of access.

Explaining the rationale behind the crackdown, El-Amir linked the decision to a broader national initiative to safeguard social values. He also highlighted a directive issued by the President following last year’s Ramadan season, which called for a rejection of media and drama that "glorifies thuggery and violence."

According to the SCMR, the ban is part of a wider effort to curb the promotion of "outlaw culture" and deviant behavior in digital spaces frequented by Egyptian youth.
