CAIRO - 3 February 2026: Egypt’s Minister of Youth and Sports, Ashraf Sobhi, has announced a comprehensive five-year action plan aimed at developing the country’s sports infrastructure across all 27 governorates, reaffirming the ministry’s commitment to serving youth and advancing the national sports sector.

Speaking during a session of the House of Representatives chaired by Counselor Hisham Badawi, Sobhi outlined the government’s vision for strengthening youth and sports development through close cooperation with members of parliament. The session reviewed a government-backed draft law proposing amendments to several provisions of the Sports Professions Syndicate Regulation Law.

The minister stressed the importance of legislative reforms designed to align Egypt’s sports-related laws with international standards, while also enhancing administrative and athletic skills and building a modern, competitive sports system.

Sobhi revealed that the sports sector currently contributes around 1.3 percent of Egypt’s national income, highlighting its growing role in the country’s economic and social development. He announced that total investments in the sector are expected to reach LE 30 billion from the private sector, alongside LE 15 billion allocated from the state budget over a six-year period.

These investments will be directed toward upgrading sports facilities, expanding infrastructure projects, and creating new employment opportunities for young people, reinforcing the role of sports as a key driver of sustainable economic growth and community development.

The minister also emphasized the ministry’s ongoing cooperation with professional syndicates and universities to develop qualified sports cadres and strengthen specialized training and education programs. He confirmed that the ministry is prepared to conduct continuous performance evaluations and introduce further improvements to ensure the long-term success and competitiveness of Egypt’s sports sector.

The five-year development strategy reflects Egypt’s broader efforts to modernize its sports industry, attract private investment, and position youth and sports as central pillars of national development and social inclusion.
