CAIRO - 3 FEBRUARY 2026: Egypt’s Air Cairo has begun regular operations from Capital International Airport - launching its first flight to King Abdulaziz International Airport, in a move the government stresses as designed to widen Egypt’s network of operating airports, ease pressure on major hubs and strengthen the economic return from newer aviation infrastructure.

The inaugural service departed with 160 passengers onboard an "Airbus A320," marking the start of a scheduled operation of six flights a week on the Jeddah route.

The launch fits into a wider push to make better use of recently developed airports and spread traffic more efficiently across the national network, rather than solely concentrating demand through Cairo International Airport.

Officials framed the step as part of a broader plan to integrate airports within Egypt’s air transport system, activate travel to and from the New Administrative Capital, and reduce operational pressure on the country’s busiest gateways.

With its location serving the New Capital and nearby governorates, Capital International Airport has been promoted as a practical alternative point of departure, especially during peak travel periods.

The airport’s infrastructure and high operational capacity were cited as key reasons it is well placed to absorb more scheduled services.

According to the Egyptian Ministry of Civil Aviation’s statement, the first Jeddah flight was the start of “regular operations” from Capital International Airport, with a fixed weekly schedule that allows the carrier to diversify its network and support optimal use of airport capacity.

The ministry also described Air Cairo as the ministry’s low cost economic arm, positioning the route as part of a complementary model that links the readiness of modern airports with the expansion plans of Egyptian airlines, with an emphasis on facilitating travel and supporting inbound and outbound air movement.

Egyptian Civil Aviation Minister, Samah El-Hefny, has said operating Air Cairo flights from Capital International Airport reflects a state strategy to maximise the benefit of modern airports and make travel easier.

In the same context, the ministry said the move supports the wider air transport system and contributes to sustainable operations through better distribution of routes and demand.

Airport management also treated the inaugural departure as a public-facing moment. Reports said the public relations team at Capital International Airport organized a special reception for passengers, with added support inside the terminal to ease check in and travel procedures, part of a message that the airport is ready to handle growing scheduled traffic at full service standards.
