CAIRO - 3 February 2026: Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly witnessed Tuesday morning the signing ceremony of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Ministry of Health and Population of the Arab Republic of Egypt and the Ministry of Health and Social Affairs of the Kingdom of Sweden, aimed at supporting partnership in the health and medical fields.
The Memorandum of Understanding was signed on behalf of the Arab Republic of Egypt by Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Deputy Prime Minister for Human Development and Minister of Health and Population, and on behalf of the Kingdom of Sweden by Elisabeth Länn, Minister of Health and Social Affairs at the Ministry of Health and Social Affairs, in the presence of Ambassador Dag Juhlin-Dannfelt, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Sweden to Cairo.
The Memorandum of Understanding comes in light of the distinguished relations between Egypt and Sweden and the keenness of both sides to strengthen bilateral cooperation between the two friendly countries through the exchange of expertise and best practices in the field of public health, which contributes to developing health systems and improving the quality of services provided.
The Prime Minister affirmed that this agreement aligns with the Egyptian state's efforts to build bridges of international cooperation in the medical field, to benefit from leading global experiences, which enhances the Egyptian government's efforts to improve health services and achieve the highest levels of quality and efficiency.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aims to enhance bilateral cooperation between the Ministry of Health and Population of the Arab Republic of Egypt and the Ministry of Health and Social Affairs of the Kingdom of Sweden in several areas of mutual interest.
These include developing strategies to support public health, exchanging expertise in establishing and activating public health control centers, exploring opportunities to utilize modern technologies and their various applications in the health sector, collaborating on the development of primary healthcare services and maternal and child health, and facilitating the exchange of expertise and potential collaboration between specialized medical centers and research centers in both countries, in addition to any other areas that may be agreed upon in the future.
In this context, Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar stated that signing the MoU represents an important step towards deepening health cooperation between Egypt and Sweden. He further noted that this MoU reflects the Egyptian state's commitment to building international partnerships in the health sector and benefiting from advanced expertise, which contributes to developing the healthcare system and supporting the health system's ability to address current and future health challenges.
The Deputy Prime Minister for Human Development added that cooperation with the Kingdom of Sweden opens new horizons for exchanging experiences in the fields of public health, scientific research, and modern technology applications in the health sector, in line with the state’s directions towards digital transformation, achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, and Egypt’s Vision 2030.
